Week 8 Progress

So far, I am really happy with my progress in Indian Epics. I am working over a week ahead of schedule, which has allowed me to have more freedom in what days of the week I turn in assignments. Some weeks I am really busy in my other classes and an assignment in Indian Epics that would have been due on Wednesday doesn't get done until Friday. I think I have a good weekly routine. For the majority of the weeks I finish all of the assignment exactly a week before they are due, but for the last couple of weeks I have been really ahead of schedule because I have to get my assignments for Indian Epics done in the beginning of the week because my other classes require a lot of attention at the end of the week. So far the assignments that I have enjoyed the most are the extra credit motto/mantra assignments. I really like creating graphics on Canva so every week I make sure I complete that extra credit assignment because I have fun creating the graphics. I have been taking full advant

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Overall, I would rate the quality of my feedback fairly high. I have been getting great comments about ways that I could clarify or make my stories better and I have also been getting detailed comments about why people like my stories or posts. I am finding the comments that give me suggestions for what else I could do to make my stories better very useful and I have been applying those comments to my stories as well. I think that I would rate the comments that I have been leaving well. Every post I describe what I liked and enjoyed about it and specifically for story comments I leave comments about what I think would be helpful for the writer to clarify for the readers or what I think would be a good idea to add to the story. I have also gotten some great ideas from other people. For example, as I was looking through other people's portfolios I saw a portfolio with a title that I thought was fantastic! I was struggling trying to figure out what to title my portfolio or if I shou

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Overall, I have really enjoyed Indian Epics. The assignments are time consuming, but I find the reading material interesting so I find myself excited to start the next readings. So far, my favorite readings have been from the Jataka Anthology  because of the fairytale-type mindset of the stories. I have found that my reading notes help a lot for my stories. When I first started doing reading notes I found a way to take notes that really helped me. I try to make at least one or more bullet point per story or episode and connect the characters to each other because the characters in Ramayana and Mahabharata can get confusing and especially how everything is related to something else. I use my reading notes every week to look back and see or remember a character, event, etc. that I really liked or connected with. I use my notes as kind of a case to go off of. Then for the weeks where I decide to plan for a story instead of write a story I do more research on what exact elements I want

Week 7 Planning: Drona

In this blog post I will outline my story and brain storm elements that I will use for my story during week eight. The character Drona stood out to me because he was the person who trained all of the princes, both the Pandavas brothers and the Kauravas brothers. In the episode "Drona Trains the Princes" of the Mahabharata , Drona promises to train the princes as long as they promise Drona to help him defeat his enemy, Drupada. In my story for week eight I think I am going to keep with the main idea of the story but drop the Mahabharata details. I might even use different names of the characters as well. I will tell a story about a tutor and his students. The tutor will teach the students throughout their entire academic career and train them to be strong academically. The tutor will choose a subject that his students will really want to excel in, such a biology or science. One day the tutor will explain to his students that when they become the smartest people in that s

Famous Last Words: Prioritizing Is Key

During week 6 of this semester I learned how useful prioritizing tasks my tasks are. This semester has seemed to be a lot more work than I have ever had. This semester marks the first semester of my senior year, which is too crazy to even think about.  For me, it is important to remember that even when I have a busy week and I feel like I am drowning, a simple "To Do" list can help organize my life and make me feel so much better. Normally I make lists every week with what I need to get accomplished every day of the week, but during week 6 it was important that I got everything for the week and weekend completed by Thursday.  On Thursday I had a friend coming in town from six hours away to spend the weekend with me. I knew I was going to be stressed out if I had to think about my homework I was not doing of the homework I needed to get done before week 7. Luckily, I know how to prioritize my work and I was able to finish everything before Thursday night!   Ever

Tech Tip: Canvas Profile

For both of my online classes last semester I had to edit my Canvas profile. The professors had us do this so they could get to know us a little bit since we didn't have class in-person with them. In my profile I describe who I am and a little bit about what I do for the university and what I do that is important towards my major, PR. I also have links to my Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and personal website/portfolio. (Screen shot of personal profile from Canvas)

Tech Tip: Announcements Email

During the first week of class I subscribed to the announcements email because Laura suggested that we subscribe. The subscription to announcement emails are really helpful because the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check my email. I check my email in the morning because it starts to get me thinking about everything that I need to do for the day and sometimes that includes tasks I need to complete for Indian Epics. Since I work a week ahead in this course it is helpful to look at the announcements double check and make sure that I completed everything that I needed to do the week before and double check that I turned everything in that I was supposed to turn in.
