Famous Last Words: My Last Post

This is my last official post for Indian Epics! I have really enjoyed my time in this class this semester and I have recommended many of my friends to take it in future semesters. Indian Epics was a great break from some of my other classes. It has been a very low stress class for me I think because I decided to start the week before classes officially started so I have been a week ahead all semester.  If I were to recommend something to anyone who takes this class in the future I would say "DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!" The extra credit is not only fun, but it is a nice way to reflect on the class and just life in general.  Out of all of the stories I have read throughout the semester I loved the Jataka tales the most. The Jataka tales are something that I will definitely carry away from this class. I loved reading them and how each story had a specific lesson assigned to them. I also liked how there were so many Jataka tales about turtles! I was excite...

Week 12 Story: The Competition

Bam! Just like that everything was gone. A bead of sweat dripped from Alex's forehead.  "How can it be? I don't understand. I bet everything. My career, my money, my things..." Alex didn't know if he was going to cry or scream in frustration. He was in complete and total shock.  You might be wondering what happened to Alex Smith. Why would he lose everything? What could possible happen to someone to where they would lose everything? Within one day Alex went from working in the kitchen of a five star restaurant to working in a dump of a restaurant.  It all started at 3:00pm on Friday. Alex was preparing his kitchen, cutting vegetables, marinating meat, talking to his team of chefs about how crowed they were expecting the restaurant to be that night. While Alex was speaking to his team of chefs, Randy Augustine strolled in.  Randy was Alex's biggest competitor and head chef and the restaurant across the street and Randy always loved to tau...

Reading Notes: The Giant Crabe. Rouse, Part B

In the notes below you will find my reading notes from part B of  The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from Old India  by W. H. D. Rouse. Spend a Pound to Win A Penny A monkey was sitting up in a tree and waiting for a pot of peas to be cooked inside of a house. The peas finished cooking and the people went away so the monkey got a hand full of peas. The monkey dropped one pea and became distressed so he went looking for the one pea. While he was looking the other people came back and started pelting the monkey with rocks and the monkey dropped all the rest of the peas he was carrying. Union is Strength A hunter would hunt for quails by sounding a call that sounded just like quails. He would throw the net over the birds and then take them home for supper the next day. One smart quail told the others to poke their heads through the net and then begin flapping their wings. So all of the quails could get out of the net. So the quails were able to get away. One day more quails g...

Reading Notes: The Giant Crab. Rouse, Part A

In the notes below you will find my reading notes from part A of The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from Old India by W. H. D. Rouse. The Giant Crab A giant crab lived in a lake all by itself because it would attack and drown any animal that would come near the lake. The crab grew bigger and bigger due to all of the animals it would eat. A pair of elephants, husband and wife went to the lake to get some water. Right when they were about to leave the crab nipped the husband on his leg. The crab wanted a kiss from the wife. The wife flirted back with the crab hoping that he would let go of her husband and he did. The husband jumped on the crab's back and broke his shell. All of the other animals were so pleased that they made the elephants king and queen. The Hypocritical Cat A cat sat by a river where there were holes that rats would go in and out of. He never tried to eat the rats because most of them would have run away. So the cat would stand every morning on one leg with his...
