Famous Last Words: My Last Post

This is my last official post for Indian Epics! I have really enjoyed my time in this class this semester and I have recommended many of my friends to take it in future semesters. Indian Epics was a great break from some of my other classes. It has been a very low stress class for me I think because I decided to start the week before classes officially started so I have been a week ahead all semester.  If I were to recommend something to anyone who takes this class in the future I would say "DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!" The extra credit is not only fun, but it is a nice way to reflect on the class and just life in general.  Out of all of the stories I have read throughout the semester I loved the Jataka tales the most. The Jataka tales are something that I will definitely carry away from this class. I loved reading them and how each story had a specific lesson assigned to them. I also liked how there were so many Jataka tales about turtles! I was excite

Reading Notes: Twenty Jataka Tales, Part B

In the notes below you will find my reading notes from part B of Twenty Jataka Tales by Noor Inayat.  The Two Pigs  A little round old lady walked by a field where 2 little pigs were hiding. The old lady picked up the pigs and told them she was going to become their mother. The old lady loved them like her own children. Men were drunk in the village and at all of their food and then wanted more food so they went to the old lady so they could get her pigs. The old lady said no. The men got the old lady very drunk so she would become disoriented. The pigs realized something was off and began to get scared. The pigs noticed there were a lot of men around and they had ropes. The pigs realized that the men wanted their flesh to eat.  The Great Elephant  In a sandy desert there lived a great elephant in a small oasis. The elephant had plenty of fruit and water and he was very happy. One day he heard something strange. He heard the voices of angry men and decided to see what it was all

Reading Notes: Twenty Jataka Tales, Part A

In the notes below you will find my reading notes from part A of Twenty Jataka Tales by Noor Inayat. The Guilty Dogs The palace dogs went to chew on the horses leather straps on the chariot when it started to rain. The stablemen saw the next day that the straps were destroyed. The stablemen went to go tell the king that the dogs ate the straps. The king ordered all dogs in the kingdom to be killed so all of the dogs were terrified. The chief of the dogs told the city dogs that he would find those who were guilty of the crime so not all of the dogs had to die. The king told the chief dog that only the royal dogs would be able to live. The chief dog exclaimed that the royal ones were guilty and proved that they really were. The Golden Feathers A family lived in a small hut in a forest. One day the father told his family that he must leave to go on a trip to bring back jewels and nice things for his family. He walked through the forest at night and a fairy met him. The fairy turned

Week 12 Story: The Competition

Bam! Just like that everything was gone. A bead of sweat dripped from Alex's forehead.  "How can it be? I don't understand. I bet everything. My career, my money, my things..." Alex didn't know if he was going to cry or scream in frustration. He was in complete and total shock.  You might be wondering what happened to Alex Smith. Why would he lose everything? What could possible happen to someone to where they would lose everything? Within one day Alex went from working in the kitchen of a five star restaurant to working in a dump of a restaurant.  It all started at 3:00pm on Friday. Alex was preparing his kitchen, cutting vegetables, marinating meat, talking to his team of chefs about how crowed they were expecting the restaurant to be that night. While Alex was speaking to his team of chefs, Randy Augustine strolled in.  Randy was Alex's biggest competitor and head chef and the restaurant across the street and Randy always loved to tau

Tech Tip: Canvas Dashboard

For this week's tech tip, I am talking about Canvas' dashboard. The Canvas dashboard it the first thing you see when you long into Canvas. Something that I really like about Canvas is how you can customize the colors and titles of your classes. I know some people who title their classes with their course ID and class name and I personally title my classes just with the class name. There are so many options so you can make it whatever you want it to be.  Something else that I do that is really handy is I customize the color of my classes on the dashboard. In my planner I color code my classes, for example for my Indian Epics course I write all of my homework and assignments in my planner in a light, lime green color so for my Canvas dashboard I made my Indian Epics course that same color.  You can even customize the colors so much that if you know the exact location on the color wheel you can write the corresponding color name (a series of letters

Famous Last Words: So Close Yet So Far

This week I realized how fast the end of the semester is approaching. This semester has seen to fly by. I'm ok and prepared for the end of the semester in a couple of my classes such as Indian Epics because I am ahead but in some of my other classes I'm terrified because I still have so much left to do! So, yes, the end of the semester is so close yet so far away.  Something that I thought I would share this week in my "Famous Last Words" is something that one of my professors has made me realize or rather connected the dots on something I think it really important. My PR research professor has stressed to my class all semester about how it's not about the grades that you get in a class it is about the process of getting those grades. At first I was like "yeah, yeah.... ok what ever." But now I really do believe it, it just took me a while.  In the past I have had a hard time managing my stress levels, so this semester I decided I wa
