Week 5 Planning: Ravana's Point of View

For my next story, I am going to focus on the character Ravana. In the film, Sita Sings the Blues it focuses on how Ravana might not have been as evil as everyone thought. When he stole Sita he did not hurt her and did not rape her like everyone else thought he did.

The entire reason that Ravana stole Sita in the first place was because Rama and his brother Lakshmana cut off the ears and nose of his sister Shrupanakha. It is kind of an ironic thing because Shrupanakha actually tried to seduce Rama but Rama would not betray Sita. Shrupanakha's brother wouldn't even try to do anything to Sita.

But why is Ravana called the demon king?
It goes beyond the earthly understanding. Ravana is used as an avatar of a rakshasa, who has a severe bloodlust to kill and eat humans.

After Ravana served a 10,000 year penance he could not be defeated by god, demons or spirits so that is the reason why Rama (the avatar of Vishnu) is destined to kill Ravana.

Ravana's description:

  • 10 heads
  • 20 arms
  • great scholar
  • brahman
  • musically inclined
  • extremely powerful king
A brahman classification describes Ravana as in the highest universal principal (caste). Ravana is described as this because he is considered to be at the supreme of existence and absolute reality. Because of this he is extremely powerful. This makes sense for Ravana to be categorized as a brahman because he is after all the demon king.

Author's note: I will be using this information to create my story for next week. I am planning on telling the story from Ravana's point of view and focusing in on how Ravana doesn't understand why everyone automatically thinks he is a bad person. Throughout the story he will battle with the negative energy from the demon inside of him.

Introduction to a PR Student

Hi, my name is Chelsea Journee and I am from The Woodlands, Texas. The Woodlands is about 30 minutes north of Houston, Texas. My family and I have lived in the same house my entire life so it was a big change for me when I decided to go to college in a different state. I am currently a first semester senior (by hours) at OU. I am studying public relations and my minor is general business. On campus I am pretty involved. I am in a social sorority, I am an account manager for Lindsey + Asp (OU's student-run PR and ad agency) and I am also the treasurer for PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America). (Personal Photo: My sorority family) (Personal Photo: PRSSA executive leadership outside of Gaylord Hall) I enjoy lounging around with my dogs while watching Netflix in my free-time. My dog's names are Jasper and Snickers. Jasper is a miniature dashchund that loves to lay in anyone's lap and we don't really know what Snickers is because we rescued her...

Week 3 Story: The Encounter with the Beast

On a sunny and warm Sunday morning, Brothers Harry and Henry were taking a nice walk with Harry's wife in a neighborhood next to theirs. They talked and laughed like any family members would do on a leisure filled Sunday morning. In the distance Harry's wife noticed something weird. A patch in the sky was gloomy and black, unlike the sky all above them. Curiously, Harry, Henry and Harry's wife walked towards the direction of the dark patch in the sky. The weather became chilly and gave them all goose bumps. Something was off. It was as if sadness and death has taken over the area that was just under the dark sky. But the three were still intrigued so they continued to walk towards the dark sky. Suddenly there was a loud booming noise and out from a patch of trees a creature slowly emerged and its bright red eyes stared straight at them. "Don't move..." whispered Henry. "We need to run..." Harry whispered back. From the shock of seeing the...
