A topic that I am interested in for the project are the Jataka Tales. I really enjoyed reading some of the stories this week, especially the story that I rewrote, "How the Turtle Saved His Own Life." I think I enjoyed them so much because they reminded me of fairy tales that my parents would read to me as a child. If I continue on with this topic for the final project I think that I would either like to rewrite "The Crab and the Crane" or something I haven't read already such as "The Princes and the Water-Sprite".
Another topic that I am interested in for the project is karma. Karma is something that I have always heard about as a kind of cliche saying. So far, what I know about karma is that it stands for every action will have a reaction. If people do something bad then then something bad will happen back to them and if people do something good then something good will happen back to them. I think I would maybe want to focus on the rebirth or causality part of karma. My favorite past project that I looked at was, "Karma: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" by Madi Ennenga.
The third topic that I am interested in for the project is dharma. A couple of years ago I took a class called communication in non-western culture and we learned about different religions in the non-western world. The term dharma was familiar to me but I had to do a little bit of refreshing on what it actually is. Dharma seems like a very confusing concept but it has a lot of different ways that it can be understood depending on the point of view or religion you are looking at. I think that is something that I can use to my advantage if I choose this topic because there are so many translations and different ways that people in Indian culture relate to dharma.
The final topic that I am interested in for the project are death stories. I think this is something that will be fun to look for as I am reading the reading assignments. Because like Laura said, there are plenty of death scenes to look out for while reading. Something that is interesting to me in culture is how the caste system, age and gender would play role in what would happen to people after they died.
