Introduction to a PR Student

Hi, my name is Chelsea Journee and I am from The Woodlands, Texas.

The Woodlands is about 30 minutes north of Houston, Texas. My family and I have lived in the same house my entire life so it was a big change for me when I decided to go to college in a different state.

I am currently a first semester senior (by hours) at OU. I am studying public relations and my minor is general business. On campus I am pretty involved. I am in a social sorority, I am an account manager for Lindsey + Asp (OU's student-run PR and ad agency) and I am also the treasurer for PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America).

I enjoy lounging around with my dogs while watching Netflix in my free-time. My dog's names are Jasper and Snickers. Jasper is a miniature dashchund that loves to lay in anyone's lap and we don't really know what Snickers is because we rescued her but all that you need to know is that she is adorable in her own way. I also have a pet turtle named Wave. Wave is 10 years old and loves to chase goldfish around in her tank.

I'm not really sure what I want to do when I graduate yet, which is why I am eager to start this semester and gain more experience in PR. Right now I am leaning towards trying to find a job when I graduate at a small PR agency in the Houston-area. I have learned that if I start at a small PR agency I will immediately have more responsibilities and gain more experience than young professionals that start out in a large PR agency.

I'm really looking forward to the year 2018. 2018 will be full of new adventures and closing milestones. I will finish my college career and begin my professional career in 2018. It's crazy how fast college has flown by.

  1. Oh, Chelsea, your dogs are so cute, and your turtle is BEAUTIFUL. There are some wonderful turtle stories in Indian folklore, and there is even a turtle incarnation of the god Vishnu: Kurma! I guess that makes him the most famous mythological turtle of all time; you can find out more here: Wikipedia: Kurma ... so when you meet Rama, the hero of the Ramayana who is also an avatar of the god Vishnu, you can think about how that also connects him to the great Kurma turtle.
And I know about PRSSA from event announcements (I think you all have a Twitter account, is that right?). Anyway, let me know about any events I can publicize in the announcements; there are always great things happening on campus, and the best events to publicize are ones actually connected to people in class!

  3. Hi Chelsea! That’s so cool that you have a job as an account manager. What made you decide to go to school in Oklahoma instead of Texas? I actually really want to go to graduate school in Texas instead of Oklahoma since I have been here my whole life. I am in love with your dogs! They are soooo adorable! You have very creative names for your pets.

I totally know how you feel about being excited for 2018. I'm graduating in December and wow, it's scary. But it's also so cool to think about all the possibilities that are waiting for us! You seem like a real go-getter so I'm sure the "real world" will be a wonderful adventure. Also, I am super impressed that Wave is 10 years old. I didn't even know turtles could live that long. Way to go you and way to go Wave.

  7. Hi Chelsea! That's awesome that you're involved on campus, and especially in your major. I have a few friends that are currently working with Lindsey + Asp as well. I love miniature dachshunds, and right now I have a golden retriever living with me in Norman. It sounds like you have a pretty good plan post graduation, good luck with the rest of your time at OU!

  8. Hey Chelsea!

Your dogs are adorable. I bet they are super fun to play around with, having more than one dog in the house can be a lot of fun. I have a couple of friends who live in Houston and they say it is a wonderful place to work, so I hope you find a job you like there when you graduate, especially since it would be so close to home for you.

  11. Hi Chelsea!
I grew up in the Sugar Land area, so I know exactly where the Woodlands are! It's amazing how many people from the surrounding areas of Houston end up at OU. Such a small world! That's also awesome that you have lived in the same house and decided to come here!
I am so jealous that you have your adorable pups with you at school! Mine are at home and I miss them so much! Also, I love that you have a turtle. So cute!
You're going to do amazing things and I can't wait to follow you through your blog this semester!

  12. Hello Chelsea, nice to meet you. The woodlands is a really nice area. Wave seems like a really cool turtle, I really like her picture. I am also a senior and yes college has gone by really quickly. I don't know much about PR but best of luck with your post graduation plans. I too am looking forward to the rest of 2018.

  13. Hey Chelsea! I am also from The Woodlands. Your pets seem awesome. I can understand not knowing what to do after graduation, I'm currently looking hard places for something to do after this semester. I am hoping I can get something near The Woodlands area but we'll see. Hope you are able to figure out what you want to do and where and that you're able to do what you want after school.

  14. Hey Chelsea! Your dogs are super cute! In addition, Wave is incredible majestic and introspective in that picture. It is so cool that you have been so involved on campus. Your work with Lindsey + Asp really puts you steps above the rest. I have no doubt that you will be able to find a job working at any PR company.

  15. Hello Chelsea, I love the turtle Wave, I also keep aquariums, fish and other aquatic animals are my favorite pets because they are so peaceful and serene, perfect for taking care of during college life. Due to being a PR major, have you ever heard of the greatest PR team in the world, the PR team for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. Even in Aerospace Engineering courses, we talk about the importance of a good PR team to successful product launch, all because of the sale job they did.

  16. Hello Chelsea!
I love your dogs and their names are absolutely adorable. Lap dogs are the best in my opinion, although the bigger ones get get in the way a little bit. I also loved that you rescued snickers! there are so many animals that need help and I am happy you gave one a home. I know shelters give hilarious names to their animals, so I am curious if you came up with snickers or if the shelter did you kept it?

  17. Hey Chelsea, when I saw that you had a turtle is made me smile. My sister also has a turtle that she got when we were younger. The family as a whole did not know much about turtles or how long they live. She has had Ariel (turtle’s name) for over 10 years and she still looks like she has managed more years to come! I also have a dashchund named Jax. Please tell me your Jaspers is as obsessed with food as Jax is? I cannot decide if he is just a little fatty or all dashchund want food as much as he does! Good luck in your classes this semester!

  18. Hi Chelsea! I'm also a first semester senior by hours here at OU! It looks like you have a lot going for you! That is a lot of positions! I thought about taking an exec position with some organizations but I just can't get myself to commit to that kind of responsibility. Your puppers are so cute! I just got a puppy over spring break and he is tons of fun! I feel the same way about graduating. I'm still not sure where I want to go or what I want to do either! Good luck!

  19. Hey Chelsea! I am also senior now. It is crazy to think how fast time has gone by! I am also really interested in PR and advertising. When I first entered college, I thought I was going to become an engineer, but my path changed so much over the past few years. I hope you are able to get the job in Houston!

  20. Hey Chelsea! I went to high school in Cypress, TX (which is basically just Houston) and spent my first two years of college at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, TX so I have spent quite a bit of time in the Woodlands. Funny story, when I was playing basketball in high school we played a game against The Woodlands High School and some kid on their team dunked on me. It was the highlight of my basketball career, so it goes without saying I wasn't very good.

  21. Hey Chelsea! I am also a Senior this year, and it's a crazy feeling being this close to the end of college. It really does feel like it has flown by. Your dogs look so adorable! Your turtle is also awesome, and I hope they're all happy. Pets are the best. Good luck to you this semester, and I hope 2018 is good for you!

  22. Hi Chelsea! Also a senior and excited to be graduating, also sad because I love this university and the people so it will also be a grieving process as well. Also love that you love dogs! They're so cute and I'm thankful for any and all dog people. I feel like animal lovers are some of the best people. Thank you for sharing your life with us! I look forward to reading your writings and getting to know you more. Have a wonderful week 11!

  23. Hi Chelsea! Your fur babies are adorable! Wave looks very smug, but I love it. Does she eat the goldfish you mention? I’m not familiar with the diet of turtles lol. Congratulations on coming to the end of your college career! I’m looking forward to being in your shoes. I also want to say that your hair is gorgeous and I’m very jealous. It was nice to meet you!

  24. That is a very handsome turtle. I too am from the Houston area (Kemah)! Never spent too much time in the Woodlands, but it's beautiful to drive through. Your doggos are adorable, and all of you look so happy together. Your campus activities sound like a busy schedule! That's really smart though to get all that undergrad experience under your belt. Good luck !

  25. Hey, Chelsea, nice to meet you! I just want to say that I love the picture of Wave, your turtle. I love turtles and I'm the person that stops in the middle of the road to help turtles across so they don't get run over. I also may have had a Ninja Turtles themed birthday party when I turned 22. Your schedule must be packed with all of your extracurriculars but they all sound super fun. Congrats on being a senior and being close to graduation. I hope your semester is going well.

Week 4 Story: Sita and Rama as College Students

Sita and Rama were madly in love. But there was always one thing that got in the way, school. Every day Rama would talk to Sita about how much he wished he could spend every second with her. Sita agreed but sometimes she thought he was a little overbearing. Sita and Rama spent hours together every week, but considering that they were both college students they spent most of their time together studying. On the weekends they would occasionally go to dinner together or watch a movie. Sita was very involved in her schoolwork. She was in a lot of campus clubs and activities, while Rama tended to just hangout with his friends, especially his best friend Lakshmana. Sita didn't know why but she was still madly in love with Rama, despite their obvious differences in character and work ethic. Rama was doing so badly in school that the university even threatened to kick him out. Sita didn't understand why he was doing so badly even though the majority of the time they hung out toge
